64 Polara 318 poly to 318 magnum. - 01/28/10 09:06 AM

Has anyone done a swap from a 318 poly to a 318 magnum? What is the easiest way? Swap out the K-member? Or does someone have a mount conversion kit? My friend bought my wrecked 95 ram van for the motor and trans. He wants to swap it into his polara. Harness, computer the whole works. He owns a service garage where I live. Has a good business working on classics and muscle cars.Any info would help.

I can't say for sure on the poly, but I've installed a 318 Magnum in the G/Friends 55 Desoto that had a 291 Hemi (gone) using the early Hemis motor mounts & brackets.

I had to modify the R/S mount bracket and add some metal to have a place to put one of the bolts. (the front lower one).
The L/S was a bolt on.

I had done a mock up with a late 60's 318 and the mounts bolted right on, but the Magnum engines have one of the 4 bosses machined off the block. (why I had to add metal to use the other boss).

There's a good chance it'll be a similar thing for you.

the Magnum still has the same ears on the block as the LA engines do(though they don't use them anymore in trucks other than maybe a B van, they are there) with the right oilpan it should bolt right in!
On that oilpan; when they went to the Magnum they changed the 318 to accept the same style oilpan as the 360; LA OR Magnum. so get a 360 pan and pickup and you should be good.
Had to do the same to put a magnum into my Volare.

Use a 360 pan as was stated, the mounts from the poly will work, add a small piece of metal to one of the steel brackets and you're all set.

I put a 94 magnum from a cherokee in our 62 Fury.
