Carb selection for 383 - 01/23/10 09:36 PM
Currently building a 383 for a 63 Fury and I'll most likely drop a 4 bbl in it. Just wondering what the general feel was about going with a new electronic Carb vs. an original Carter AVS. Holly (Model 4160) and Edelbrock (model 1406) make some nice looking carbs. Just thinking price wise it would be the same or even a bit cheaper to just buy a new Carb vs. buying an old one and having it torn apart and rebuilt.
Thanks Ya'll

what's your intent w the car, daily driver or some hot rodding? A 600 eddy would work good. All oe AVS's are emission carbs and have 40 yr old tech and 40 yrs of wear. Would need eddy 2 step rods/pri jets/flat rod covers to change the main metering but for a daily driver they'd be fine.

[quote Those Eddy's do look nice!
Yes they do. I have one, the elec choke version on my 318, I think it's a 1406.

If you're going to keep the motor bone stock, I'd be going with something like a holley 650cfm 4150 carb. If you want to do a little hot rodding like a set of headers and a mild cam, then I'd go with the traditional performance carb, the holley 750cfm 3110.
