Parking brake cable removal - 01/14/10 09:14 PM
Is there a secret trick, or special tool to remove the parking brake cable from the brake backing plate? It's a 8 3/4" rear. I was successful with one of the cables by using a hose clamp to squeeze the "barbs" enough to allow it to pass thru the mounting hole, but the remaining one is giving me fits. I don't want to damage the cable, but I'm quickly losing my patience. Can anyone offer a suggestion? Thanks.

I usually slip a box end wrench over, and twist it around. Can't remember is it's 1/2" or 9/16"

Some of the most creative swearing I've ever done came out the first time I battled that.

I compress the tangs with a 9/16" boxed end wrench and yank the cable out.
