Disc Brake Conversion Advice - 01/11/10 04:44 AM

Greetings: I need advice or pros and cons for a project. I have a 69 Sport Satellite vert 383/4sp w/ 3:55 8.75 rear. I want to convert it to disc brakes. I now have manual drums all around. I am looking at Wilwoods, SSBC, or MP Brakes. I will be getting a firm feel box with tubular upper 'A' arms also. A PST rebuild kit for the entire front suspension. I want power discs. Any concerns, tips, advice would be appreciated, thanks.

given any thought to using Mopar disc brakes? Seems a lot of folks forget that discs were available for many of these cars.

Thoughts? yeah...

Swap to discs, keep the system manual and work on those chicken-legs of yours!

Save the money from the Tubular A-Arms and put that toward some frame connnectors. On a convertible that will be godsed compared to the tubular A-Arm which you will never feel on a mild suspension built flexi flyer convertible.

Just get some factory disk brakes with the 11.75 rotors. You'll need the 11.75 caliper adapters and F/M/J body spindles or 73-76 A-body spindles.

For improve caster adjustment just run offset upper control arm bushing Moog p/n 7103. You should be able to get 3 or more degrees of positive caster with those.

i agree with above, i swapped to factory '73 to '76 a body discs on my '70 bee and kept it manual. i can't tell it's manual, they work great and they are the small ones, 10 3/4" aprox rotors.

Had factory '74 Charger disc brakes (10-3/4" rotors) on my '72 RR for the longest time. Yeah, they were the longer B-body knuckles, but they worked great, stopped great, and never had any problems with ball joints. Upgraged to Andy's Viper caliper setup for the bling factor. The old setup (knuckles, rotors, calipers, brackets) is still wrapped up in plastic in the garage somewhere...

....the knock against Mopar power discs is that they are TOO sensitive.I agree and so does the family of skunks that saw me spinning when I went by them.
manual are fine and keep your engine bay tidy..

Thank You gentlemen, all of the advice and suggestions were just what I was looking for. In fact, a fellow co-worker of mine has an entire f- body setup waiting to be used again. The price is right. Thanks once again.
