My 4 speed has the drips

My 4 speed has the drips - 01/07/10 02:43 AM

I have a small leak from the front of my A833. Anybody ever replaced the front seal? I've never worked on a A833 before. It would be nice to know what I'm getting into before I pull it and make a big problem out of a little problem.

That would be one of the easiest seals to replace.Just remove the 4 bolts holding the front retainer on and install a new seal.Make sure to order a new gasket as well.

Do you have synthetic oil in it? I replaced my old gear oil with Amsoil synthetic and it leaked all over and would not shift smoothly. Went back to regular gear oil.

You also need to check the bearing retainer for cracks at the bolt holes. Very common when bolts get over tightened. Also be sure that you have the correct bolts and use a sealant under the head.

i went from a 75-90 gear oil to redline mtl and it now shifts WAY better. from now on that or penzoil synchomesh is all ill use. the tranny does not leak with synthetic either. all my gaskets and seals are only 2 hears onld though.

I was going to use royal purple 140wt. I got the '67 plymouth manual and that's the weight it suggest.

Redline is all i use. No leaks , great shifts. In Extreme cold a cold 4speed will be a sticky 4speed
