B-Body Suspension - 01/02/10 04:17 PM
I had my Satellite(GTX Clone) up to about 140 mph yday. I noticed that the car was rolling lft to rght a little. I have the original shocks from 40 years ago on thefront and some new Monroe shocks on the rear. I have a front sway bar to install but have not as of yet. Do I need a rear sway bar as well? And do I ned to replace all shocks with KYB's? I replaced torsion bars last year to handle the front end weight of the 440 but didnt change shocks. What can help keep this car on the road and improve handling without breaking the bank?
Were you at the drag strip or a closed race course? If so, you should have your entire suspension updated if you're going to be racing. If not, you can fix your problem by not going 140 mph. Seriously, If you're going that fast public Highways, just stop!

Nah I was at a race trac strip. But even regular driving I would like a more modern ride.

You were going 140mph on 40 year old shock and suspension....
Step up and get some new parts. KYB's at least all the way around, and swaybar kits are as cheap as $99 now. How much caster is set up on the front end? Are your lca bushing worn? steering box a bit loose? Seriously, look into some upgrade. If not for safety, you would enjoy the better handeling car.

Re: B-Body Suspension - 01/02/10 07:32 PM
The front end was rebuilt with a front end rebuild kit from Just suspension. New bushings, torsion bars etc.My friend says he can adjust my gear box a little and tighten that up. I just didnt put new Shocks on the front. I did on the rear cause I changed the rear ends. But they are just some regular Monroe nothing special. I plan to add a spring or 2 in the leafs in the rear, install front sway bar and get a rear sway bar. Will this allow me to obtain my goal?

Looks like its Time for a Complete Suspension rebuild kit like offered from just suspension or other vendors. And maybe you should take a look at the brakes, too if you havent already.

Look dude, I'm not stupid and don't attack my persona when you know nothing about me. Where I was yesterday was the country. My buddy has a race track on his 350+ acres. Part of that is a straight shot almost like a runway. All of us wanna be racers go down there and run our cars however we want for $10. So talk what you know not what u think!!!

At those speeds, air under the car is a factor. I'd be thinking about a front air dam, too, and running the ride height at about 5 degrees nose down. As the previous posts have recommended, good shocks, and as much positive caster as you can put in it.

The Coronet R/T was leaving the ground at about 130. Have not done it since.

There are many things that will make the car drift side to side. Uneven Air pressure in the tires is one. I do hope your tires are V rated or higher.

Re: B-Body Suspension - 01/03/10 07:02 PM
If it wasn't dangerous it wouldn't be as fun. Due to gearing, mine tops out at 105ish. You gotta give up some more details about that car. 140 is getting quick!
At some point your going to have to seal up parts of the grill and work on aerodynamics. I doesn't matter what you do to the suspension if the front tires are off the ground.

AutoX, any chance you could post a picture of the RR with the camaro spoiler? If it is subtle, that might be what I do! Lee.

Here is a link to a company that sells spoilers. They might have something that will work for you.

Re: B-Body Suspension - 01/04/10 10:25 PM
I'd start with checking the front suspension and alignment.
Even with old shocks, that will not control compression and extension. The side to side you are complaining about is not common for a B body, worn suspension or not.
If you do decide on an upgrade, big spring rate and stiff shocks. Z rated tires and have fun!

Re: B-Body Suspension - 01/05/10 11:39 PM
I believe my problem are the shocks. Cause it just floats up and down a little too mmuch at high speed. I'm doing that and sway bars and an extra spring on the back and see where that gets me. front end has already been rebuilt xcept for new front shocks. Thanks for input guys. And any more is certainly welcomed. I fixed the speedo gear and i figured 160 wldve been 140. But I was doing more like 130 and not 140. But that's still getting down for me. lol

Re: B-Body Suspension - 01/06/10 12:35 AM
I dunno, Had a cuda long ago that was doing same kindof thing at 135 mph on a straight road. It was still gaining speed, and as soon as it started lifting up then settling down, then up again, it was time to lift. After slowing it back to about 85, which felt like 30, I was figuring the car was trying to get on top of air underneath it. Make sense? That was stock suspension, and I was glad to not have to turn the thing at that speed.
