Ebody Driveshaft- Where to buy-Challenger work? - 12/27/09 11:33 PM

Well i need a new driveshaft (dont have one) for my 73 cuda. It a BB 727 to a 8 3/4 with the large yoke. I have one from my challenger and tried putting it in and its about an inch too long . Is there a way i can get it to work by cutting the front yoke or is that a big No No?

If all else fails, wheres a good place to buy a new complete shaft and about how much do they go for? Thanks!!!!

Take it to a place that repairs or builds driveshafts and have the shorten and balance the shaft. Remove material from the big end. No technical reason, just cosmetic.

What is the ctr-ctr length of the drive shaft you want to modify?

If you near Clifton NJ,.....Driveline Service can cut weld balance your shaft, bring the yoke if you want them to assemble the whole shabang 973-473-7900,....depending on your location, they may have another shop closer,....I just measured the BB 70 Cuda 727 8 3/4 shaft I have, it's 43 3/4" ctr to ctr on the u-joint eyes,....no it's not for sale

If you are ever in Long Island there is a place off of route 231 called Deer Park Drive Shaft. They do custom shaft as well as stock. There also make alot of limo shaft for the Island. Not a big dollar place either.

Id rather not cut the challenger shaft b/c i need it for my challenger. Does anyone know what length a cuda drive shaft should be? Where do you measure driveshaft length from?

Assuming a 73 uses the same length shaft as a 70-71, it should be 43.60" for a BB with 8 3/4" rear-end. Measured from the center of the u-joints.

Correct, the Cuda's WB is the same thru the years, as is K frame/engine position ......... I've seen dems listed also as 43.625 ......I measured twice with a tape measure and got 43.750,....an 1/8" difference, could be a "production tolerance"?....either way, as long as you have at least 1" of play when the suspenion squats you won't slam the the yoke in the tailshaft of the tranny

IIRC that's the price for just the shaft kit?....I think it's another $150 for assy/balance, plus ship

Price sounds good!....question them on what speed they balance the shaft up to,...if it's 3500 or so RPM, find another shop that can run it up to 7500 to 10,000 RPM as the balance is more apt to show it's dynamics/harmonics at that speed
