71 charger hardtop, coupe, whats the difference? - 12/22/09 10:25 PM
I'm looking at a 71 Charger as a project. I know that the coupes are rarer but what is the difference between a hardtop and a coupe? Thanks

I'm not certain about the different 71 chargers but a hardtop has both side windows that roll down and no B pillar above the door. A Coupe has a fixed rear quarter window, may or may not have a B pillar above the door. (In the case of 71 chargers, NONE of them had the B pillar (post))

Look for the A93 code on the fender tag if you are unsure if one is a coupe.

I did some digging, it does not look like A93 was available on the Charger, so I stand corrected.
I do have a 1971 b-body tag here with a "23" VIN & A93 though.

Apparently a coupe 71 R/T or 72 Rallye is a rare car.

I think it has to do with weather the rear side windows are fixed or go up and down.
I don't recall which is which though.

71 Charger R/T's all have roll down rear window.
Don't know about 71 Super Bee's?

agreed... those weren't WL21 or WH23 cars, they got its own VIN code, WS or WM. both accomplished by 23 numbers what it means HARDTOP
since 72 Rallye were packages added to the existant VIN code, and not a diff code. Just WL WH or WP ( SEs ) you could get Rallye package ( A77 code ) on WL21 or WH23
