Anyone have technical data -Edelbrock Street master 440 - 12/20/09 04:00 PM

Hello, I have an old Edelbrock Street Master 440 intake and I would like to know what the RPM range was of this intake..and weather it is a good one for a rebuilt 440 30 over engine with 9.5 to 1 comp with a Hyd. cam someplace around 474-500" lift with a 270-280 dur @50
3:23 rear gears with a 727 automatic transmission with a stock/HP converter

Hmmmmmmmm runners are curved like the fantastic Holley Street Dominator and not straight like the vintage Torker. Sorry I do not have any usefull info but- If Eedelbrock was copying the Holley SD that shoud be a great manifold up to 6000rpm.

Visually it looks a lot like the Torker 2 intake, but with a thermoquad flange and I think it's got the smaller runners of the original torker intake. One thing I don't like is the way the carb bores transition to the plenum/runners. Looks like a lot of blockage there...?

I agree it looks like a blockage that I would think you could cut with a die grinder and smooth out that area.

This is the intake I am using on my motorhome project. So far ... I like what I have experienced but because of the gearing(4.56) .. the motor is singing about 3200. When I eventually get a shorter(3.73) gear ... I will probably try an SP2P.

That "blockage" in the four-corners of the carb opening? .. that HAD to be designed in-there. I think the intake was designed MORE FOR a fuel-econ HP application. Now if you removed those "corners" .. it would probably be a better higher RPM piece.

I was meaning to get a couple of older magazines to get their "tests" on these intakes .. but no luck so far. I called Eddy some years back and asked them some basic tech-data on these two intakes .. they were of ZERO assistance.

You can try it but I believe the stock, iron intake will perform better and be more tractable. These SP2P and Streetmaster intakes were single plane, low RPM intakes. A dual plane will be more flexible in that application.
Anyone I ever knew that wasted the money on these intakes in the 70's and 80's quickly took them off and put the iron ones back on. There is a reason the Holley SD and CH4B remain popular to this day.

Sheldon .. the SP2P is a dual-plane intake.

And as far as wasting your money on these ? ... If you truly feel that way ...and have a couple of these laying-around - gathering-dust .....I will BUY every one any one has.

Well, the ports are alot larger on the streetmaster intake than an SP2P intake. I think it was modified a little just under the carb flange it would work alot better for sure.

Roger that .. the ports on the SP2P are big-time smaller ... for better fuel atomization.

If I put a shorter gear in my MH ... I could probably benefit MORE with the SP2P.

From what I remember, the application is for RV use. The blockage that is refered to in the intake is to lenghten the runner for torque. End result is idle to 4500 rpm or so. Edelbrock claimed a 20% increase in torque.

The .474 280MP cam pulls strong to 5200 with a performer, iron manifolds, and stock heads.

An upgrade to eddy rpm heads, rpm dual plane intake and tti headers, really wake up the combination to 6,000 plus rpm (5,000 to 6,000 rpm pulls like a small nitrous shot)..., my street 87 octane motor is 9:1 and makes about 390 hp at the rear wheels on a street tune with big fat torque over a broad range.

Well 9 years and 10 months after your post I was looking online for the same info but this was after the fact off fitting the manifold which enhanced my performance noticeably regards Mike
