Let's see your k-member carts - 12/19/09 05:49 PM
I am pulling the drivetrain as a whole with the K-member in a couple of weeks. I need some sort of K-member cart to wheel the thing around, and need to know what I should buy or build to make it happen. Thanks in advance!

Really simple wooden frame. Possibly could have had some better castors but these ones I had in my garden shed did the job.

I fitted the trans at a later date so I only needed one to fit the engine and K-frame. Here it is having the body lowered over it. The headers were a tight fit between the frame rails but it did fit.

Hi Brian, just went through that sort of thing last summer. Just get some square stock (like trailer hitch size), weld up a cradle for the "K" frame. Put some casters on it, then make up a flat stock metal with an adjuster length of square stock welded on it (to attach to the area of the trans cross member). At the bottom weld a caster so the trans will role with the engine. To take the whole thing out as an assembly (eng, trans, "K" member,
and suspension)just unbolt the four main "K" member to frame bolts and lift the car off. Let me know if you need help.
Mike
The wood thing looks good too.

I really like that set up Dave, I think I'll build one like that. 'Cause mine is borrowed anyway.

I copied mine from this one. The T section is 4" square tube and the telescoping tail section is 3.5" square tube. If you're going to use a cherry picker to lift the body make sure the cradle isn't too wide.
