Torque box pics needed

Hey Guys,

One of the last welding items to do on my 68 Road Runner is to install torque boxes (both front and rear). After looking at them, I just can't see paying $300+ for the set when I can probably make them for nothing except my time. Can someone email me some good pictures of those things from different angles? Address is in my profile. Also, please include some measurements too. Width, height, etc. Big pictures would be appreciated so I can see the details. I fabricated the hemi throttle return spring brackets and wire seperators using photos, and I think they came out pretty good. So I figured I'd give these a shot. Thanks guys. I'm getting close to being done with the welding!

Is your car an original Hemi car or a clone? I ask this because hard tops only had rear torque boxes, fronst were a convertible part. Some cars mistakingly recieved fronts but it was a fluke. Sometimes racers add the fronts because they do help up there.

It's a Coupe (post) and a clone, tribute, fake, whatever is politically correct these days, but going to try to make it as accurate as I can. So I don't need the front ones then? I didn't know that. They all got the rear leaf spring shackle reinforcements right? (those small plates that connect the rear shackle mounts to the frame) Thanks for the pic and the info.

Right, you don't need the fronts, and yes they got the inner and outer reinforcement plates in the rear torque boxes and the rear leaf spring eye support plates in the rear of the car. Also a pinion snubber plate. If you need the TB plates and snubber plate I carry both (but no longer carry the boxes).

BTW, factory reproduction torque boxes are now sold through Resto Rick. Honestly, making your own (nice ones anyway) might be pretty time intensive and what he sells are pretty darn accurate, perfect, no, but a country mile closer to OEM than anything else you'll find on the market. I'd reccomend dropping the cash for them rather than making your own, they really are worth it and they will look correct.

Man, thanks a bunch Scott. That helps out greatly. I'll give it a shot first and see how it comes out. I have the metal already laying around and an afternoon's work should yield some results...or some choice words, one of the two. If it doesn't work out, Rick will be the next call. Thanks again!!

No problem. BTW, these are far thicker than your average sheet metal, they are stamped steel, and while I forget the gauge off hand it's about 1/16th of an inch thick! Heavy duty stuff for sure.
