how many running a stage V intake - 12/14/09 09:23 PM

I wasnt sure where to post this

so here we go

How many are running a stage V hemi intake?

Where did you get your air cleaner?

I seen snobar has one for a shaker hood, but I dont have a 69 road runner with a shaker hood.

Or is it a one piece fits all

Lots of people must run that intake because I sell a lot of the linkage kits for those intakes. One of my most popular kits actually.

Tim at For Hemis Only has a lot of parts to make those intakes work including air cleaner setups.

I seen snobar had the base, but doesnt list a lid for it. If I remember correctly, the carb spacing is further apart for hooley carbs. If they are further apart you would need a base and a lid

I ran one but took it off because there was no way to make the chrome dome 66 cleaner work with the Holleys I was running. Call Tim at FHO he has what you need to make it work with a 69 style air cleaner and AVS'. My 66 is an original Hemi car so I went back to the stock intake.
I ordered another Stage V intake for the 528 I'm building for my next project. I like the intake enough to do whatever will be necessary to make it work, and this next car will be a clone.

Just bought one and ordered the base, inkage and lid all from Tim at FHO. I dont think you need the air grabber hood necessarily.

The breather is a work of art. Nice powder coated base and orange powder coated lid. It's a little pricey (540 CDN for the base and cant remember what the lid cost)

So, around $750 including shipping

I have a 2x4 Stage V on my Hemi :-) I got my drop-base stock-looking base fro Tim Banning @ FHO. Nice piece, but not cheap.... This lives under a Rallye hood on a 71 Barracuda, with Schumacher mounts on a BB k-frame.

Here's a link to Cassel Ent.

They sell several different types of HEMI aircleaners that fit the Stage V intake. Round,Airgrabber and Shaker.

Sheldon , would mounting the holleys sideways work ? With the air cleaner on it shouldn't be easily seen , other than making the linkage work ???

I have a 528 Hemi from Tim at FHO with the Stage V and 2 Eddy carbs.

The drop base that I bought from him is for E body shaker hoods, so the guy who restored my Road Runner cut it and welded it so that it would work with an air grabber.

John: I've been thinking of commiting sideways! I'll mock it up today and post some pics, I have one 1850 and a couple of double pumpers, I'll play with it a bit. I also have a bare 66 intake and a bare Stage V intake if anyone needs measurements. (Hey I'm not working and it's too cold to work in the garage today).

To me that air cleaner needs more of a lip on it around the outer flanged oval.

I am thinking of buying one of the original intakes from Aruzza that he modifies now. Then I can run an original air cleaner.

Re: how many running a stage V intake - 12/16/09 10:45 PM

Okay I did a few rough mockups. The 1850 Holley is unusable with this intake unless you can run a non-stock air cleaner. I think a person could mount double pumpers sideways with a lot of work and make a baseplate for a Mopar aircleaner with even more work. The 1850s mounted normal are too long and the air filter element would have to be where the fuel bowls are. If you mount the 1850 sideways then the diaphraghm is where the air filter wants to be. I deleted the dang photo but this setup would not work with the 69-71 air cleaner either.

The double pumpers would require being spaced up a touch and you would need an adapter for the carb to intake mount anyway.

Re: how many running a stage V intake - 12/16/09 10:52 PM

The double pumpers would require some grinding of the carb's linkage and some manifold grinding as well.

Trying to run fuel lines underneath everything would be interesting.

Re: how many running a stage V intake - 12/16/09 10:55 PM

I think 4224 centre squirter Holleys would be easy to package and effective but I don't have any to try and I think they would be too small for what I am doing.

Tim advises to use AVS' and I can certainly see why from a packaging perspective.

Re: how many running a stage V intake - 12/16/09 10:59 PM

I have a couple AVS but one is bolted to the 383 in my truck right now. I think I may buy a couple of new 800 AVS and they should work excellent for my new over 500 inch engine. We'll see how my tuning skills are getting them to work with a roller cam, I will run a 4000RPM convertor though (go big or stay home right?). Here's the missing shot of the later style air filter and how it won't work with a sideways 1850 either.

Re: how many running a stage V intake - 12/16/09 11:05 PM

I run it with 2 Demon 750 carbs. I use 2 K+N filters I'm to cheap to spend $750 for a air cleaner.

Re: how many running a stage V intake - 12/16/09 11:13 PM

so if you run them in line they would have to be single pumper carbs from what I can see with the spacing.

The aruzza website has some 750 carters setup for your application for $760 for a pair.

I dont think that is too bad.
My motor will be a 472 with a 600 lift solid roller, landy roller rockers and indy heads.

Thats right Vacuum secondary carbs, they are road demon jr's that I bought from Summit when they stopped selling Demon carbs. Paid $400 for the pair!

that's what my car had on when i bought it. they were sitting on the mopar marine manifold.

i'd never worked with demon's before, so i took them to a local guy to tune, very well known for his carb expertise. he basically said they (these particular ones) were junk and in his opinion it wasn't worth the time or money to try and dial them in.

so i went with the edelbrocks as i'm familiar with the carters from the old days.

i then went with the stage V manifold...

Re: how many running a stage V intake - 12/23/09 11:50 PM

I bought a round 66-69 air cleaner from Classic Haulage. It fit great with the new style 1850s carburetors. The older one have float adjustment screws which might hit the air cleaner base.

Can we see a photo of the baseplate and filter? The filter must be cut down or something.

The filter is built into the baseplate.

I also make a Stage V spaced A12 base which would work great with that hood!
