Sebring convertible seats..For the Chrysler techs - 12/13/09 03:57 PM

I've always wanted to do what this guy did, except they would be going in my charger

http://www.corvairkid.com/sebring.htm

the local wrecker has a set, but they are out of a 2004. would it be possible to get the seatbelt control timing module out of a 96 or 97 and use it on the later seat?

or can they be used just powering them up without the sctm? from that link I posted, it seemed like the seats already have some sort of inertia restraint..

As described above, the SCTM holds the occupant in place during airbag deployment, which we don't have to worry about with a Corvair installation, but it also helps keep the occupant from making contact with the interior of the car by holding them more firmly in place than the inertia wheel can do on its own

I've always wanted these seats because I hate my stupid seatbelts. my stock seats are nice, but the foam is shot and is disintegrating and falling onto the carpet, plus they have no adjustability or support.

Thanks in advance for your help,
Kevin

I think he points out in his article that 2000 and up integrated that into the main computer and so he sugguests 1999 and earlier.

He also mentioned that if you used a later seat that you had to get the earlier module/wiring from a pre 99 car. it seems like the actual seat, belts, solenoids, etc are the same, but just the computer that controls them varied during the years.... I just wanted to confirm that. I was hoping a chrysler tech who had some experience with these would see this post.

thanks for your response, though. I was beginning to get a complex.

I'm going to get the seats tomorrow. I have to remove them myself, any special tools to get them out other than metric sockets and such. torx?
how about getting the console out, what's the best way. I have to get the sctm and wiring from it. and the guys i parting the car and I don't want to trash it.

Kevin I don't think you will get anyone to say this would work. Not many tech's like altering Air bags or seatbelts systems from the factory design.

Vert interesting project. I am thinking about retroing a set of seats into my challenger, these would be pretty neat.

I am curious. How did this project work out for you. I am considering something similar.
