Racer Brown Cams

What is the general consensus on RB cams. I have read a lot of people swear by them and others say they are old technology and more modern cams profiles are better.

There is a book on big block mopars where the author says to look for a hydraulic cam with duration @.050 that is 85% of advertised. On a solid look for 90%. This is supposed to indicate an aggressive ramp/lobe profile. I have looked at an RB ssh-25 cam with [Email]238@.050[/Email] and 285 adverstised. Its 83.5% does this mean its not ground to take advantage of the .904 lifter? Most to the hyd cams I have looked at including the Comp and Lunati cams that are supposed to be ground for the mopar lifter do not come out to be 85% or more either.

I guess I should just take the cam grinders word for it. Who to trust? What are peoples thoughts about Jim from RB?

Well I can say that I love the Racer Brown cam I run in my 340 car goes like a bat out of hell! Idles great with good vacuum and will pull to 6500. and too top it off gets close to 14MPG with 4.10s and 25" tires to boot. A clown in a newer vette found out the hard way recently that a 340 is no punk from a dead stop.

Check it for core shift after it's installed in the block, with the gear on and the lifters in. That's probably good advice with any cam.

I am very happy with mine also, it is in a 340 dart, very mild grind, with less advertised duration than the stock cam but it will run 13.7 at 102mph with 3.23 gears and stock exhaust, plus I can get about 18+ mpg on the highway. I will go with them again on my next motor.

I ran the SSH-38 for while then stepped up to the SSH-44. Call Jim and talk to him about your combination. He's no stranger to Mopars.

The one that he ground for my stroker is awesome.

Small blocks like this cam either in the regular version 340-360 or the stroker version 408-416
