Aftermarket cam and stock valve train

Looking for a good low priced cam for my 72SSP budget beater.
I have a 1975 440 truck motor for it. What is a good cam that I can use with the stock valve train? Will be an auto with 391 gears and stock converter.
Was thinking of something with around a 480 lift.

Your stock torque converter will limit your cam choices more than your valvetrain will. I have 20+ years on a 292,.501 Comp cam with stock rockers ,stock pushrods and stock valves in a street car. Only one rocker failure in that time. Bent two pushrods once when i had some overkill MP valve springs on( can't remember the part # but they were the springs that the 590 solid calls for). I wouldn't go more than about 230 duration at .050 with your stock converter. The big Summit cam might be a good choice for a low cost cam.

low comp smog motor, I'd use a comp XE268 or voodoo 60302 or 60303.

Use valve springs comptable with the cam though. Coil bind or valve float isn't nice to deal with.

Stock springs? voodoo 60301 TOPS... Beware, it's a slippery slope! Valve spings--->valve seals--->valve job and all of sudden your $400 into a cam swap on top of the cam lifters and timing chain. if you go poking around in your engine bring cash!

I saved the truck from the crusher thinking that this motor had 63,000 original miles. After getting into it, looks like it may have been rebuilt. New timing chain, freeze plugs, 010 on crank, ect,ect. Very clean inside.
Did I mention low budget beater?lol
Just want to perk it up abit.
