73 400 engine mount bolts - 12/09/09 07:49 PM

I've posted on other Charger forums but I want to hear all answers. On my 73 400 Charger I'm finally finishing the powertrain/chassis buildup. I finally got the transmission successfully with the help of two friends. I also put a quart of trans fluid in the converter before I reinstalled it. Does the engine mount bolts need washers behind the head or is it ok to leak them without? I don't if the engine will sink down if I remove one bolt at a time to put in a washer. I noticed a few other small problems I need to fix before going for the intial startup. One of my brake line bolts is leaking at the caliper eventhough its all new and tightened. I noticed the speedometer pinion adapter is seeping but the O-ring was nice eventhough it was from a donor 727.

Did you use the smooth brass washers that come w the caliper? Make sure it is thick enough to sit above the recess & I'd probably just go ahead & get a regular MP ribbed washer #6030084 & I've reused the old ribbed ones in a pinch but it's sure safer to get new and I'd suggest putting a new O ring in the trans adapter & if you jack up the dr side you'll loose as little fluid as possible.

For the motor mount I would put washers on both sides of the bolt. If you jack up the motor with a floor jack and a block of wood under the oil pan you should be able to get the bolt out. You will need to lift the motor a hair with the jack just to take tension off it or else that bolt will never come out.
