Is Original dashpad worth saving?

I just replaced the dashpad on my 70 Challenger. Quite the job!! Should I keep dashpad as it is orig or get my 200 back? Thanks MOPARTS!!!

Should you... I don't know. But I would sell it. You've already made the choice to replace. It takes up space and has no particular value that I'm aware of. Might as well take the $200.

It'll cost about $60 to mail right? Is UR giving $200 for cores now? I have my original Cuda pad and the UR box

I bought my new pad at Mopars in the Park in Farmington MN and the guy lives in Circle Pines MN about 8 miles from me . I'll drop mine off. He pays $195 for the core. Thanks!!! MOPARTS

i never understood why people don't repair their old pads. I went to a upholstery place that had every possible vinyl pattern which i found a perfect match to my 69 charger interior vinyl. You can get the stuff cheap, i got enough to make my own door panels for like $13. You can get it super thin as well, fill the cracks on your old pad with some kind of silicone, that remains flexible, and then with some spray adhesive and a heat gun cover your old pad with the vinyl, and tada.....new dash pad....and once on the car there is no way to tell.

I am ready to replace mine (70 Challenger).

Just dashes sells them as well but they are different. Pick your poison.

Don't use the plastic core, only spring for an original metal core.

69chargeryeehaa, I agree on a B-body dash pad, do it yourself. But an E-body dash pad is a whole different animal. Too many curves and compound angles. We have tried and the results for us was just not acceptable. Better off spending the $500-$600 and making it look right. Back to the original question, sell it with out question. As mentioned, its just gonna take up room.

Is there any company that buys the cores, or do you have to sell them to someone that needs it for a core??

Call Ultimate Rides (their nuber is in the link provided above) or Just Dashes and ask them. UR can provide a call number for UPS and all you do is wrap it in paper...easy. Unsure if they buy them when you are not having one recovered but I'm sure they need them.

I am having an E body pad done. I bought a core on Ebay from someone in Nebraska for 50 bucks. I cleaned the rust off of it. I had Nick in AZ (Moparts member) take care of the rest with Ultimate Rides. Best price (Moparts group rate) and the most convenient. Nick arranged for pickup by FedEx. Wrapped in shrink, it has been there for a couple of weeks now, will let you know how it turns out.
One word of caution, the guy in NE sent the VIN on it still. This is a federal no-no (interstate trafficing of a controlled item). You need to keep the VIN in your posession. Next hard part is the rivets to reinstall and a Moparts member helped me out there (Thanks Pete!).

Create a post and ask folks their experiences with these. I have a UR pad that looks pretty good. I do have a gap between the lower edge of the dash in the center, as it does not fully meet the lower dash trim/molding. I may need to remove the pad to ensure there is not some foam that needs to be trimmed. Riveting the VIN tag down can be tricky as there is some foam in that area and my original did not appear to have anything between the vinyl and the frame below the tag
I understand results can vary. Overall I like the dash. Theres allot of work involved with creating these and the price is actually pretty good

Where do I find these special rivets for the VIN?

I recieved my Ultimate Rides pad fairly quick, and at a good price. It's not fully installed yet, but I have test fit it once, and I'm pretty sure I can live with the quality.

My car is a 70 challenger and Ultimate Rides uses the correct dash script for my application, which was important to me.

There was some extra foam on the inside of the pad which needed to be removed for installation. This is a comon issue with their pads. You just have to do some prep work cleaning it up/test fitting before installation.

Ultimate Rides will make Air Conditioning vent holes in an original metal core if they need an AC dashpad to sell. This is something that Just Dashes refuses to do. Now I know why... To get my AC vents to fit my Ultimate Rides dash pad, I had to enlarge their holes in the metal dash frame with a hack saw blade after receiving it! It's a good thing I had a 100% grade in Geometry class! It's a little tricky figuring which side of a non factory hole to enlarge and still have the vents fit and level to eachother. I had to take about 3/8 inch of frame off top of each hole. Very stressful, but it worked and looks good now. I'm pretty sure the ducting will line up with the vent location just fine.

I sent 2 cores to them on June 10th this year, and have confirmation that they were delivered. After 4 phone calls and more than 2 months, I still have Not recieved the check for my cores! I call during the day, but always seem to have trouble getting ahold of them. The owners voice mail box is full, and the receptionist only seems to answer about half the time. I left another message around 2 this afternoon. It's almost 4 hours later now, they close soon, and still no call back. Customer service leaves a little to be desired.


I've also used Just Dashes and am happy with that product as well. Their 70 E body dash script is not chromed as original, but that only matters if you have a 70 E body. I hear that the grain pattern is more correct on the Ultimate Rides pads, but I didn't notice any grain problems with my Just Dashes pad. I guess I'm not a stickler for that sort of thing. Just Dashes is expensive, and it takes a long time to get the finished product, I think because they have a waiting list. No trimming or cleaning was required. It installed without any problems. A few years later, a small flap of vinyl came unglued where it was rolled under by the left side of the instrument cluster, but I glued it back in place and haven't had any problems since.

You can find them in MCG (Mopar Collectors Guide) Hemmings, or Ebag, Pay no more than $45, sometimes u can find them at $35. If you live in Michigan, most will not sell them to you due to regulations.
