K frame finishing - 11/28/09 07:44 PM

I have glass beaded the K frame on my 1970 Roadrunner 440 six pack car, time to paint. Looking to restore this piece to original, what color is it supposed to be? Where is the best place to buy the paint?

Thanks

Cool, is the best place to buy at Eastwood? I think they sell a kit that includes primer as well

Satin black is correct. What i did to my 69 Dart k was I painted it with high temp engine paint.Think about it normal paint fades and looses its shine, high temp pain will last a long time.I do this to all my cars even after a few years still looks great.

what about powder coating it? Would that hold up and can they powder coat in satin black?

Powder coating will work. I powder coated the one for the Barracuda. Then there is ceramic coating that holds up to heat real well and available in different colors. Any powder coat shop should be able to do the ceramic coating also. (I think cermaic would be overkill) Powder coat should hold up fine.

I wasn't doing an exact restoration, but I used Eastwood's Chassis Black and it came out very nice. It is a semi-gloss/satin and can be applied over bare metal:

..i did mine in semi-gloss and after it was re-installed i read it should be gloss on one of the hi end resto websites.
so maybe mine is correct, engine paint is a good idea because it is tougher.
another trick is to paint hi-gloss because it it the hardest and then bury it with satin.....al

I would powder coat in semi-gloss black.
