Zinc Oxide Primer vs. Red Oxide Primer

Zinc Oxide Primer vs. Red Oxide Primer - 10/30/09 06:06 PM

Hey everyone.

Finally getting to work on the body of my Challenger and I decided to work on the taillight assembly panels.

Just got done stripping them down and noticed that they used red oxide primer. I was going to use a gray zinc oxide primer. Since this is my first time working on body work I figured I'd ask you guys and gals out there.

My question is this: What would be best to use? Would the corrosion benefits of gray primer be better than the exposure benefits of red primer?

Thanks for all the help!

Forgot to mention, the taillight panel is of the 1972-74 kind. Going to be using silver argent on it.

Here's a bump, but the correct answer I believe is not one of the above, I would think an etching or a 2 part epoxy primer would be a better choice.

That's what I was leaning towards. Thanks!
