...chasing a pesky thermostat housing leak.Got everything buttoned up and wondered what would happen if the thermostat is installed upside down?
Would it still work but cycle at a higher temp or maybe overheat?
Anybody? ......... al

won't work because the part that causes the thermostat to open won't get hot. It would over heat.

..thanks Stumpy.Pretty sure I checked this.
Used a bit of silicon and will start it tomorrow.Guess I'll watch my gauge and and keep checking my upper rad hose w/my hand.
I thought that the hot water on the wrong side would eventually heat it enough to open it a bit....al
What kind of housing - chrome big block one by any chance? They're known to leak.

Always surface the housing before installing.

...not chrome, alum for smallblock.Saw a few cast iron ones at Carlisle....should have bought one.
Anyway started it and let it warm up about 20 minues ago and cooling system cycled O.K.
It would usually seep a bit after it cooled down.I'll check it later.....tx all
