Backglass removal - 68 Dart - 07/11/08 03:53 AM

I need to pull the rear window out of my Dart to do some rust repair, since it's a 2dr sedan I can't do it my usual way which it cutting the gasket and buying a new one later.

Does anyone have any tips on getting this thing out without trashing the gasket or breaking the glass?

On my 69 I used varsol to help soften the buytl sealant. Also used a small rope that went in between the glass and gasket and ran it along the glass to help separate the glass from the gasket. You will need to have a helper inside to pull the rope at the same time as you pull the rope from the outside. If you take your time and be careful you should have no problems.

Fortunately, you're working with temperd glass in back. You need to remove the moldings, unzip the rubber gasket, work a fiberstik[plastic glass-shop tool]between the rubber and glass.DO NOT USE METAL. Soak it like crazy, then have someone push firmly from the inside, as you work the rubber over the edge of the glass. Begood and I replaced a windshield into a 40 year old/Arizona gasket[BRITTLE!!]. Be patient, and you shouldn't have too bad a time.

Thanks, If I get some free time this weekend I'll give it a shot, If something goes wrong I have a parts car I can raid another backglass from but I'd rather not if I can help it.
