440 to 493 w/ HP exhaust Manifolds - 10/13/09 04:03 AM

How much do you think I would gain going from a stock stroke 440 to a 493 storker (with bigger cam) compared the following combo:

440 30 over
Edelbrock heads (85cc)
10 to 1 CR
CH4B intake (air grabber)
Holley 850 DP
Lunati voodoo 268 (226/234 at .050 .493/.513) 110 LSA
HP exhaust manifolds (I know headers would be better) and 3 inch exhaust

Anyone running stock manifolds on a BB stroker? Mancini has a nice deal on a kit $1450.

thanks,

Steve

Cam looks too small, and Andy F has made some nice power with eddies and HP mainifolds. I'd look at the 60304 voodoo for your combo

about 1hp/cubic inch is about the norm when adding displacement. on my 470
the power difference was very small when we dynoed it with hp mans. vs 1 3/4" headers.
the noticable difference came when the header size went to 1 7/8". 2" was the catz azz.

bsb67 ? has a 67 charger with 500? and manifolds. I think he must be making about 900 lbs-ft of torque with it.

The manifolds will hold it back a bit, but it will still be a measurable improvement. You will like it.

I've written a bunch of articles on similiar combos, you can find them on this board or on the net. I also covered the topic in my book.

Short answer is that combo will work just fine as long as you use the correct camshaft. The Mopar Performance .528 solid will work great or call Dwayne at Porter Racing Heads for a specific recommendation. The vast majority of "catalog" cams will not work very well for that application. Most catalog cams have too much overlap to work with exhaust manifolds and you'll end up with a dog. The correct cam will make more power than your chassis can handle.
