P0441 Code

P0441 Code - 10/12/09 05:35 PM

P0441 (M) Evap Purge Flow Monitor Insufficient or excessive vapor flow detected during evaporative emission system operation.

Any techs familiar with this? The past two times I've gotten gas, the light has come on instantly. I just reset it and go.

What is the normal cause of this code, or what could it be?

Thanks.

Is the car running when you get gas?Thats what usually sets that code when you get gas.Sometimes a bad cap will cause it also.Rocky

Nope, never have it running. I just replaced the cap not too long ago.

Do you fill it?Lots of people overfill. That and some pumps are too fast and the emissions setup smells it and pops the light.Rocky

Negative. Both times I've filled from just above E to slightly above 3/4. I rarely fill it anymore.

Next time put the gas in slow and see if it sets. Not a lot to check unless it sets all the time like everytime its cleared and resets the code withouth gassing up.Did this happen after the cap change?Rocky

Negative, it's only recent. Over the past month, two gas trips. Cap was replaced months back.

1. faulty fuel cap or...
2. a leak in the miles of tubing.

theres a procedure that uses smoke to test the line(s). expensive and time consuming. good luck.

is it the correct gas cap?

Re: P0441 Code - 10/12/09 08:45 PM

POSSIBLE CAUSES

-EVAP Canister
-Wiring Harness Intermittent
-EVAP Purge Hose (Canister to Fuel Tank)
-EVAP Purge Hose (Solenoid to Canister)
-EVAP Purge Solenoid Vacuum Supply
-EVAP Purge Solenoid (Leaky/Stuck Open)
-EVAP Purge Solenoid (Stuck Closed)

Hope this helps

That code is not set by a loose gas cap or a leak in the system. (YOu would have leak codes then ie gross leak detected, small leak detected, etc..)

That code is usually set by a problem in the purge system.

If you pull off the canister and solenoid, you will likely find it is full of dirt. It may work if you clean it, but you may have to replace it all, or just some pieces.

I might be mistaken, but I think that is the code we had on a durango R/T and a 4.7 dakota. Its just a piece of hose about 2 inches long under the hood that is dry rotted. I will check to make sure and let you know if you want.

Re: P0441 Code - 10/13/09 02:00 AM

That code is set when it fails the purge flow test. The PCM will turn on the purge solenoid to let the vacum at the purge pull the vapors from the canister into the eng and the PCM looks for a change in the 02 and short term memory. It could be as simple as no vacum to the purge solenoid or a good size leak on the evap system. It has to pass this test before the PCM will run the evap leak test. Ron
