Painters Delstar Acrylic Enamel Questions

How come your not using the DCC single stage paint instead?

I once tried to clean up a glass jar that had leftover DCC in it with the a Delstar line reducer and it wouldn't touch it.

I have never used DT with just enamel, not saying it's not OK. I just looked at a can of DT and it doesn't say wether it is for hi temps or low. I use it with my epoxy primers. The hardner your using will cause the paint to lay out nice and gloss more than than with just reg enamel.

It says only DU 5 hardner can be used with DT reducers. Mixed at 4-1-1 ratio only.

I love delstar only it not avalable here anymore. Now if I want it I got a import it. I guess I really need to get ready for water base stuff anyway I hear that its only a mater of time before Im forced to change products again.

For originality purposes the delstar is probably going to lay down and provide a more correct shine than any urethane paint. It's good paint, but with so many people using base clear it seems out of the ordinary, kinda like chevy guys repainting their 60's vettes with lacquer. It still happens, but not nearly as often anymore.

It's still available here, but the paint store people will go out of their way to sell you something newer (and more expensive). I have 2 quarts of black and a quart of clear that I use for detail work. My dad had his 64 nova painted in delstar in the early 90's and it's still holding up great.

If you can get the Concept DCC single stage paint in your color, it is just like spraying Delstar with hardner. (only better)
Goes on great, covers incredible and super shine..
It is more money than Delstar, but if you dont have to drive out of state to get it, probably will be less money...

I bought four gallons of Delstar back in 2003.. I have the drive covered... I didn't buy Delstar cause it's cheaper, I bought it cause I like Acrylic Enamel..

is that the slowest reducer they carry?

get the slowest reducer possible,that's where your problem is, single stage urethane reducers tend to dry alot faster.When I shoot urethane enamel ,I use the slowest reducer avaliable,not only it gives you a better gloss,but also a smooth surface,eliminating wetsanding

Actually I believe my current problem is a chemical incompatablity, The P sheet that Challenger1 posted a link to sez don't use urethane reducer with DXR-80 hardener...Use one from the DTR series.. If your using DU-5 hardener then you can use DT reducer...

I do agree slower reducer flows out better.. In the past I've used plenty of Acrylic enameel with great results.. But it's been off the shelf here in California over ten years.. I can't get the stuff I used in the past & the local paint supply shops have likely forgotten most of what they once knew about the stuff..
