What push rods are these?

Pulled apart a motor this weekend. It has sat for around a decade. It was rebuilt shortly before I bought it. I did not buy it from the person who rebuilt it. I only know what it is I can figure out by part numbers and help from here.

This has some kind of non-factory push rods. Both ends look hardened.

I believe all 67 down BB used those pushrods. They use different lifters and rockers too.

Well, this is interesting. The block was cast in March of '67 but has a D stamped in it. I thought the D meant '68. The rockers and lifters look like standard parts.

These things are light. They aren't like the stockers I've seen/held before.

Rockers are the same just the lifters are different. The small end fits the lifter. If you try and run a late pushrod with the OE lifters it dosent seat in it like it should.I have a complete set of lifters rods and even the cam from the kids 62 413 that we changed.Rocky

So the factory used light push rods in '67? These are not a solid tube like every other big block push rod that I've seen.

This engine was put together very wrong then if these are '67 push rods because the small end was at the rocker, not the lifter.

Nope. The lifter does not have a small cup. Looks like a "standard" lifter to me (I didn't know there were differences until this morning). The big end of the pushrod was in the lifter and the small end was in the rocker.

When I rebuilt my 67 440, I used 68newer pushrods and lifters.. Works great.. My understanding is you cannot mix and match the 67 older pushrods/lifters with the newer stuff.. Kind of like a matched set...

Does anyone have a picture of their known '67 push rod?

The ones in the picture above are hollow and have inserts at each end. I would have guessed something like this was not factory.

Those look like factory rods , I have cut 68 up factory pushrods to make a checking pushrod , they are hollow .

easy fix , buy new pushrods , problem solved .
