Another 440 Cam Selection Thread - 10/07/09 08:22 PM

Need some help figuring what cam to put in.
1 9.3 comp ratio
2 factory intake and exhaust manifolds and heads.
3 650 Holley vacuum secondary
4 currently 3.55 rear probably will put in 2.96
5 727 auto
6 71 Road Runner
7 Want to have enough vacuum for power brakes to still work
8 want to set for street car I can drive long distances, not racing it.
Want more than a stock cam, with some decent pull to it.
Any help will be appreciated.
Thanks

Something around 220@.050 and .500 lift would get you there.

i have almost same combo in my car - i chose the XE268 - i don't have power brakes, but i'm sure it makes enough vacuum - this cam that's supposed to be a bit "lopey" really isn't at all - kinda sounds like an old train at idle

I run the lunati voodoo 60303 and my power brakes work as well as they did with the stock cam. For your mild combo and gearing I would try the voodoo 60302. The 302's 220/226 @050 duration, .479/.494 lift and ground on a 112 lsa. Should be a good cam for your application.

FWIW even the 'big' summit cam would do well in your application.

I have a .030 over 440, 9.35 to 1 measured compression, mild iron heads, block hugger type headers, and an Edelbrock CH28. My car is 3500 pounds and it has 3.08 gears. I went with a Comp Cams 270H grind.

Smaller Summit cam. Cheap and will work w/ your almost stock build.

Thanks for the suggestions, those were the cams I have been looking at. I will probably go with the 60302
