timing needs set on magnum v8 - 09/30/09 02:14 AM

just got a good deal on 95 5.2 Ram, but engine seems to idle rough and gas mileage really bad. After some trouble shooting I checked the timing and it's way off. I tried dialing it in by rotating the distributor but it didn't seem to change anything. How do I set the timing on this?

You don't.Timing is controlled by the ECU. Rotating the distributor just causes new problems. Check for codes, look for oil on the spark plugs and inside the intake manifold.Lots of possible issues.first check for codes.

You dont. The distributor needs to be set up for the correct sync signal. All timing is done through the computer. Getting a fsm will show you how to set it.

You can put the motor on TDC pull the cap and line up the rotor with the notch in the cam sensor plate and it should be very close. You can get it closer with a good scanner.

Like was said you need to see if there are any codes, if no codes pull the plugs and check them out, also need to check the wires real good, if they look old or cheap replace them.
