Stealth R/T TT Cars?

Stealth R/T TT Cars? - 09/28/09 11:40 AM

I am curious to find out some information about the 1994-96 Stealth R/T TT (Twin Turbo) cars. I have found that these were the 3.0L V-6 engines rated at 320hp/315tq (12psi).
How much did they weigh?
I am curious how they held up on the street. How was the AWD feature and how dependable?
Were these cars quick and dependable?
I see used pricing from 12-20k depending on condition, is this correct?
They appear to be fairly rare, would you buy one if you found one? Would you use is as a daily driver? How much power can they make with after market parts?

Thanks

I would use one as a daily driver if I had one. I think they're way overpriced though.

They're pretty quick for what they are, TT's I think were in the high 13's/low 14's. They're nothing like any of my other Mopars, so if I had one, it would remain stock and I would just drive it until I got tired of it and then sell.

The Stealth is the same thing as a Mitsubishi 3000GT. IMO the GT is the better looking of the two. I just could never get over that ugly spoiler that was pushed way up to the rear window. Now I have seen a few that have been modified...new spoilers were installed and better wheels, and they look pretty good.

The TT R/T's will also have four wheel steering. Make sure that it really is a TT. Some of the R/T's didn't come with a turbo at all.

I had one for 10 years, (92 RT/TT) and put 140k miles on it. Never had any problems with the AWD or AWS. BUT - even if I found a low mileage one now, I'd be real hesitant to buy it. The engine bay was just jam-packed, and was impossible to work on. I suspect that parts may not be easy to find for the AWD/AWS stuff, and there weren't a lot of these made in the first place. I think one of these cars today would be a huge money pit.

Specific answers to your questions:

They are heavy 4000lbs+. It feels like it when you drive it.

They are quick. Factory 0-60 was 5 seconds. Even today that's pretty darn fast. Lots of torque all across the tach.

Overall I never had any major problems with mine. AWD/AWS was flawless, no engine problems, no major maintenance issues at all.

FYI - the RT had the exact same body kit as the TT. The only way to tell them apart is the "twin turbo" script on the side skirts, and the TT had dual exhaust out both sides of the valence in the back, where the RT's only had a single outlet. (Passenger side, IIRC).

I have to agree that the mitsu 3000 gt was the better looking of the two cars. The stealth got an ugly spoiler behind the rear window similar to a late 90's pontiac sunfire. That and the stealths tended to have ugly wheels stock. Not to say those can't be easily worked around but I would just go for the gt.

Fun cars, great performance potential but every owner I've talked to in person (okay only 3, but still) has told me how packed they are under the hood and they are a bit of a pita to work on. That said, I would still own one if I could find a fairly low mileage one.
