Help me seal my exhuast manifold for the last time. - 09/23/09 12:05 AM

I have replaced the right side exhuast manifold Gasket 3 times..and on a hemi that is the side that you dont want to take off...I've tried Mr gasket.. stock ones, tried RTV red high temp with Gasket.. It may last a month, maybe 2. I re-torque also. The Manifolds have been resurface..any Idea's? leak is not in the same place everytime.Maybe I should no Gaskets?

Did you use the high temp copper rtv? My brother has mounted cast iron exhaust manifolds directly to the head with nothing more than a thin smear of copper rtv.

Might want to check and make sure that the sealing surface on the head is free of any leftover gasket residue from any previous attempts also.

Try no gasket. I think you should check port alignment of the manifold and head before going any further. I have never had an issue with Hemi manifolds but I certainly have with 5210 Hooker headers and that was because their port alignment was terrible.

We used these on a couple different Hemi's with great luck. By far the best gasket I have ever used.

I have the Remflex RF6010 in stock for alum(larger than original size port) heads! If you are running original cast iron heads and manifolds you need the RF6023 gasket.
Check the Race Parts For Sale page 1. Good prices.

the red does not hold up to heat

the permatex copper is high heat and has seal all my mannys with no gaskets

I use it on headers with gaskets also

just let it cure 24 hrs first

might want to check that the exhast pipes are not to ridged

as the engine torques over it can cause them to blow a gasket or crack a manny

I use a flat file to check the surface on manny and the head at the ports to make sure the are flat

never had a hemi...but I have had lots of junk exhast systems

the copper has fixed some pitted up header flanges more than once for me

Cometic now makes a 3 Layer Stainless Steel Embossed header gasket for the 426 Hemi engines as well as the SB and R/RB blocks.

There is NOTHING Better

Google "Mopar custom Gaskets" that 4 seconds guy has 'em

I've always used Percy's deadsoft and not had a problem other than having to retorque. The Remflex gaskets look awfully sweet and aren't much more...may have to give them a look the next (dreaded)time I need to change em.

I have Two Late Model Dirt cars that I have used Orange RTV for years and have to pry the headers off when removing them. I don't use a gasket and just a small amount of RTV. What happens with a gasket is you give the system a weak link that can blow out. Like the thicker gaskets. If you don't retorque them all the time they flex and blow out. With just a thin layer of RTV you just fill the small imperfections in the matting surfaces and leave no place for the exhaust to blow out. All my toys have RTV and no gaskets and I have talked may people into being believers

Thanks guys..I needed a fix before Sunday, so I couldnt get the Remflex in time. So I went with ultra Copper RTV Permatex. So far no leaks. If it does leak again, I'll get a hold of BradD for some Remflex Gaskets.
