727 factory stall speeds? - 07/07/08 02:25 AM

anyone know how to tell the stall speeds of factory converters? i have the following good converters: 84 truck 360/727, 79 cop car 360/727 and a 73 360/727 truck. all are good converters. want something around 2000 for my 77 shortbed that is getting a mild 360 in then ext few weeks. i can buy them for around 200$ but if i am only getting a few hundred RPMs of stall, will it be worth it? Can you determine the stall by the diameter? if anyone has a converter around 2000-2400, i would be interested. thanks, JP in KS.

Here is a list of '78 stall speeds, pretty much the same for other years mentioned:

looks like i will be buying a converter then. it looks like converter diameter is not the determining factor of stall speed. forgive me of my ignorance! thanks, jp in ks.

Converter diameter does have an influence on stall speed, the '78 chart shows only the 10 3/4" because that's the year the 11 3/4" was discontinued.

All other factors being equal the smaller converter will stall higher.
