Radiator recored - now what to use for paint!?? - 09/15/09 08:05 PM

69,000 original mile car - all original.
I had to have the radiator recored.
I asked them not to paint it so I got it back bare naked.
I want to make it look "weathered" and 38 years old like it was before the recore.
What do you all think?
Flat black engine enamel and gray engine enamel lightly dusting one color and then the other??
Ideas?

You could just use Hi-Temp Flat Black, then pour dirty, rusty water over it when it's Hot, a few times.

I like the way you think! You know exactly what I'm trying to replicate - thanks for the idea.

The potential "problem" with the gray spray-paint, is the possibility of it looking more like overspray or tiny-dot speckled. Granted, if still wet, it might blend-in with the black, but not sure.

The Flat Black High-Temp enamel should protect the radiator, and paint flattens as it ages.

Brown plus gray might look better if the Rusty-Old radiator Water technique doesn't get it done for you.

Good Luck with it.

no need for the gray, just flat will look old and dirty in no time.

You might want to spray the fins themselves w special radiator paint that transfers heat better than regular paint.
