mechanicl is by far moe acurate. my Chrger's dash gauge showed 20-30 lbs difference over the manual gauge. don't forget a water temp gauge too.

i have a mechanical summit gauge, my truck cruises at 60psi cold idle is about 20psi. when its hot the idle is right around 10psi sometimes lower. i figured the crappy summit gauge isnt reading correctly it acts kind of funny and theres no noises from the engine that would indicate low oil pressure. maybe ill just get a new mechanical gauge from autometer?

Modern electric are just as accurate as a mechanical. You can even get a full sweep elec if you want. Use either, your call.

Modern full or short sweep electric oil psi gauges are just as accurate as the mechanicals but keep the oil out of the passenger compartment. I still went with mechanical, but I just ordered a braided steel line to replace that nylon hose all the oil pressure gauges come with. I always have a spare known good mech oil psi gauge sitting in the garage I can swap in if something goes wrong, no spare parts for an electric oil psi gauge, so I stay with the mechanical.

Are you sure it's not a leaking gauge connection? Check the hose connection at the block and at the gauge for leaking oil. Also check the nylon line for kinks/cuts. A low reading could be the result of that. Or the gauge itself could just be defective. Or you really could have that low of oil pressure.

Original dash gauges are NOT as accurate as a mechanical gauge IMO, but the new electric gauges such as Autometer are pretty bang on.

I have electric Autometers tucked under the pass side of the dash easily seen from the drivers seat
