TTI exhaust install issues - 09/07/09 01:05 AM

I have a 74 Dart Sport with a 360 automatic with column shift and factory manifolds. I am installing a set of TTI 2 1/2" exhaust and it is hitting the passing gear linkage after I modified it like the directions shows, and I can not hook up the shifter linkage due to the pipe being in the way and the starter cables are will not allow the starter to go back on. Can anybody please help?

I'm not sure what you mean about the shifter linkage not being able to hook up? I just had to do mine and the stock linkage fit but I had to take the block that the adjuster rod slips through and move it to the opposite side to clear the exhaust. What part can't you hook up?

The adjusting block that the rod goes thru will not go back in place and the passing gear linkage will not clear the pipe after modifing. Did you have to switch to the smaller race stlye starter to clear the pipe?

I had this problem with my 512 72 Challenger. I had to bend the lever from the floor shifter up IIRC then bend the rod going from the floor shift lever to the trans until it fit and worked smooth. The mini starter I had to remove the heat shields and bend the #1 tube so it was not directly on the starter they say that any starter will fit but it's only a couple of starters that actually fit I had 2 brand new ones and of coarse neither were the correct. one I love my TTI headers it's the best $800 I ever WASTED

No, the starter wasn't an issue in my car (1971 Duster) but that block was hitting the exhaust when I moved the linkage into the gears, I think because the exhaust is slightly bigger in diameter, So I moved the block to the other side of the linkage that it attaches too. The kickdown wasn't a problem as it is a cable and was just slightly out of the way, it was next to the tranny cooling lines.

a tti exhaust that doesnt fit? This cant be...Oh it must be your car was made different than everyone elses, thats why it doesnt work!! Couldnt possibly be that tti exhaust fits like garbage could it? I had a real treat of an experience getting it under my cuda...I sent it to the exhaust shop so they could cut it up and modify a 1000$ exh system.

Well I have it on both of my cars and it fit fine. One a 340 and one is a 440. No shakes or rattles and it doesn't leak. You may have to shim or move your motor a little to make things fit. The pipes are marked if you look close and alot guys miss that.
