Throttle Cable Lokar vs Imperial Services - 09/06/09 12:42 PM

Hello,
I posted a reply to this discussion thread:
https://board.moparts.org/ubbthreads/show...e=2#Post5463178

I have the same problem of the four barrels not opening up, I am just not getting the travel. Currently I'm using a Lokar cable and someone mentioned getting one from Imperial Services. Is it possible the lokar cables are not giving enough throw? I've been to car shows and see most Mopar's using cable instead of the stock linkages.

Thanks

I have the Lokar cable on my Dart and use the bracket that came with it. The cable mount needs to be lower than the ball stud on the carb in order to get all the throw. The ball stud travels in a arc.

In you're photo it looks like the cable mount and ball stud are in line. The cable can only pull through the arc until it's in line again. At this point it is pulling straight and will not open to full throttle.

If the cable anchor is mounted lower than the ball stud it pulls it through more of it's arc.

This what I found on mine .

had a friend send a cable trans push button shifter to them for their conversion and after a year and a half didn't get it back. i for one won't be ordering anything from them.

you are using a lokar cable with a stock bracket? i've used their cable and brackets numerous times and on many different cars and have never had a problem getting full throtle. they have always been holley carbs , not sure if that makes a difference or not.

Yes, that makes complete sense with not being able to make a complete arc. I see how how the ball&catch for the throttle needs to be above the mounting bracket. I don't understand how I can do accomplish this. It seems there's so many guys running this exact same setup. Do you have any ideas how I can make this work? I've been fighting this for so long!

Since you live in Detroit you should be able to swing by Mancini Racing and take a look at some of the different throttle brackets that they have for sale. I'm pretty sure they'll have a setup that will work for you.

Not in my experience. You should be adjusting the length of the throttle
cable while holding the carb at WOT. Any kick down cable adjustments should be done after the throttle cable.

You probably already know this but you need a throttle return spring in there somewhere so the carb does not stick at WOT.

I see from your picture, your cable is lower than the ball and catch. Mine is higher, this might by my problem. I noticed someone posted something about this product.

This product has the throttle cable bracket much lower than the linkage connection.

why not just use the proper bracket and return springs from lokar?

The Bouchillon brackets and cable's are a much better design, simplified installation and you don't need to cut cable's to fit.
