torsion bar question

torsion bar question - 09/01/09 10:21 PM

A friend gave me a pair of slant six torsion bars for my Challenger.
I know they're marked left and right, but does it matter which end goes into the frame socket?
If you switch the bar end for end, it will twist the opposite direction. Does that matter?
My original bars were marked as follows;

left front
CZT
779L

left rear
779L
499

right front
778R
529

right rear
CTJ
778R

The slant six bars are marked as follows;
left
775L
063

UVL
775l

right
774R
063

UVW
774R

I'll appreciate any help on this.

IF you swap the bars end to end they will twist in the same direction. It doesn't matter.

like a bolt with a nut, no matter wich one you tight ( bolt or nut ), allways will be CW. Turn it around and still will be CW to tight.

on the other side will be the same but imagine is a CCW thread to tight, no matter which end

You guys are right.
I tricked myself by putting a piece of tape on the torsion bar and drawing an arrow the direction of twist.
If you flip the bar end for end, the arrow changes direction.
What I didn't consider was that then the opposite end would do the twisting.
Thanks.

I recently took a pair out of a 69 b body for cleaning and they were installed with the L&R markings going into the LCA.

put the #'s/letters end at the rear so If you lose track of what you have in there you can eyeball it later & find out.
