need help with one piece kickdown spring - 08/30/09 07:53 PM

this photo is prior to rebuild - i just saw the darn thing, and now i can't find it anywhere. it runs from the throttle lever down to the kickdown/throttle cable bracket. is is just a safety spring for the factory return spring, or is it kickdown related?

thanks

EDIT: not the chrome double springs, i know what they are, i put them on with the new carb, but the lower spring, just for clarification, since you can see 3 springs in the picture

Re: what is this spring??? - 08/30/09 08:04 PM

okay, after more digging, it's a kickdown spring - now how do i find out which one i had and where to get a new one?

kick down spring goes from the rear pivot to throttle stud. The one pictured is not a stock sping. From that pic it's hard to see how it is working as a kickdown spring

Re: what is this spring??? - 08/30/09 08:50 PM

that's what i was thinking...it's almost like a back-up throttle return spring, but i now have dual springs on the carb....during reassembly, i picked up the spring and had no idea how to hook it up to the point where it would work for kickdown - this picture is how it was hooked up when i got the car over 6 years ago...

so i guess i now need to know how to hook up a kickdown spring on a one-piece kickdown linkage for a 440 any ideas?

Connect it so it pulls the kd rod forward

not sure what you mean/where to connect - tried looking for pics, but can't seem to find any.

The pic below shows the correct one-piece linkage configuration, if you had the correct Holley throttle lever extension (Holley #20-7) you could eliminate the dogleg bend in the slotted link.

I copied the wrong pic over. Thanks John. The idea is the same to keep the rear of the slot in contact with the throttle at all times.

well, i assume it's the chrysler throttle extension i have, i transferred it over from the holley that was on it. i got a great pic from a guy on the roadrunnernest, so now i can see exactly what i need to set it up like.

i also seem to have the "hillbilly" nut and bolt in the slot - i may have more questions on adjusting it later, but it seemed to work just fine.

have correct spring on order, so should be here in the coming week just in time for the new motor to burn some tires. when motor is back together i'll post pics in my project thread to show what it looks like. it's been a long process, upgrading things as i had money in high school and college, til i now finally had enough the pull the motor for rebuild, buy nice things, take my time, and get rid of the "cobbled-up mess" - much more better now!
