Front framerail replacement supports - 08/24/09 09:12 PM

Looking to replace the front frame rails on my ebody. While there, I will be doing the cowls, full front floor pan, inner fender panels. Anybody got pics or a website showing some good pictures of where to support the car while this work is being done? Can I make up a rig to bolt to the door hinge at the front pillar and level the car there?

I'd sure like to find plans for a jig like Auto Metal Direct has their Road Runner project on that they show in their ads (except I need an E-body). I've got to replace a frame rail, floor pan and some firewall work too. It sure would be nice just to secure everything in a jig to make sure it is straight and weld away!I asked this same question awhile back and got no responses....I even called AMD about their jig and they said they would have someone call me back, I'm still waiting on that call......

I have to make something and level it to the concrete floor and just don't move it once it is level. I was wanting to know the best point to secure it to, where I will be removing both front frame rails, I surely can't fasten anything to them? I was thinking the door hinge blocks of steel straight to the floor. Ther is really not a lot of weight there.

I am interested in this too.

I have my plan of supporting my car along the rockers and rear spring mounting points with adjustable screw type jack stands and taking detailed measurements before I cut but I have another car that really isn't too straight to begin with I need to do also.

Call this a bump

I was thinking about making up either an angle iron or a U channel which would get drilled and through bolted into the door pillar hinge steel blocks. The bottom would rest on the concrete floor and be shimmed level before work begins. I was thinking about the rockers but the door hing bolts seemed in a better location, easy to bolt into, and right where the car seems to have the most structural integrity.
