Source for pulleys with non-standard backspacing?

Source for pulleys with non-standard backspacing? - 08/24/09 03:35 AM

I was wondering where to get a crank pulley for my 451 (stock WP housing and pump, + 3/8" for the front plate).

There will be absolutely no room to space the water pump pulley forwards (viz. the HHR Fan thread).
So it's got to stay where it is.

The alternator of course can be mounted anywhere it will fit and spacing it forward or back is easy.

So that leaves only the crank pulley (non-stock damper too). Is it possible to use a spacer on the crank pulley, and if so where can they be had?
If not, once I determine the correct back-spacing where can I buy such a pulley?

Of course the other option is to have 3/8" milled off my water pump housing but I'll bet that costs as much or more as one crank pulley
thanks

I would machine the WP housing , cheapest and fastest , I don't think there is a pulley like what you want , OR space out the lower pulley with a spacer ...

Sounds good. Can you point me to a source of 3/8" spacers?

And is this likely to be a weak point at 6000+ rpm (using a spacer)? I can envision the bolts shearing off and the pulley going through the radiator/fan or worse... Although the pulley will only be turning the water pump and the alternator, so not that much load on it.

Take the water pump housing to a machine shop & have them cut .375 off the flanges the are gonna be bolted to the engine plate...

maybe MP , the yhave a spacer for the hemi crate motors , I THINK it's .375 , I was thinking more of just making one , that is what
I would do.

Actually what I would do is take the pump housing to work and take 3/8 off it during lunch .

Mancini Racing has the 3/8 thick crank pulley spacers in stock. They are designed to use when running a 3/8 thick motor plate. They also have thinner spacers for other applications.

Thanks Andy... I should have figured the guy who makes the motor plates would have an answer for the pulley alignment too

For now I will hold off and see if I need that precious 3/8" to allow the water pump pulley bolts to clear the backside of the HHR electric fan! If so I will have to have the housing milled down.

thanks again
