Multi-meter test for ignition switch? - 08/22/09 11:42 PM

I am looking for a good piece of info on testing an ignition switch on my 71 Challenger, using a multi meter. Anyone have that specific information available, please? I am trying to confirm if everything is working correctly. Thanks!

I'd start with checking the voltage drop between the "batt" and the "ign 1" terminals on the ign sw. Set your VOM to tenths of a volt & run it at a fast idle. What problems are you having?

I agree with Robert.. The advantage of a voltage drop test is it shows you what the circut resistance is really doing to the available power.. Using a Ohm test passes such a minmal amount of current that a low ohm reading will make you think all is good when in reality that circut might not be able to pass the required amount of current due to high resistance & the voltage drop on an active circut would show that accurately by not passing full voltage through the component your testing...
