340 Crank Shaft

340 Crank Shaft - 08/19/09 10:20 AM

I'm looking to build a TA motor for my AAR. In the car currently is a 1973 short block with the upper end all TA.

Is there a problem using the 73 crank shaft? Does the TA motors have a special crank? Or do I have to find a 1970 crank?

Thanks MoParts

Use your shaft. The T/A was built while the shafts were still forged but so what. They also had special designed heads with offset pushrod passages.

it's easy to spot a weighted balancer and #'s on the block.

If you have a complete short block with crankshftfrom a 73 it should have the correct 'for cast crankshaft 340 only' damper on it. you will also need a torque converter, or a cast 340 flex plate (not both), or flywheel that is weighted for the cast shaft.

Have the engine internally balanced and use the std 340 balancer. Poof.. instant "correct" 340.
