Six Pack Idle - 08/16/09 02:00 PM
I had an issue with my idle on my six pack . It was all over the place. My Mopar performance dist. had 2 light advance springs in so I replaced one with a heavier one and now it returns to whatever I have it set at and that is great. My question is at 1000Rpm's at idle when I put it in gear it drops 300 rpm's . I don't ever remember that it should drop that much. The engine has a 484 lift cam 30 over 915 heads and a Hemi street stall converter.
Thats Moparts

whats your timing at? vacuum advance hooked up? it could be on vacuum advance at idle that disappears whenyou put it in gear. disconnect thevacuum advance and plug it at the carb. set the timing to 15-20 degrees initial and see what it does

set the timing WITHOUT the vacuum hooked up. the hook it up and see what happens.

I agree with the others on the vacuum advance. Set timing without it, but still use it even if you adjust it so it doesn't contribute much
Personally, I think your idle problem is the carbs being too lean at idle...mine did what you describe...took a lot of playing around to get it. A vacuum gage absolutely helps to do it.
