My truck is making a clunking noise when going over bumps. The shocks are new,the lower ball joints are good.I am at my wits end.It almost sound like the noise is coming up thru the steering column.Need fresh ideas on what to check.

Check the frame where the idler and steering box bolts. They were known to crack. The idler would get tight but would turn and the frame cracked.Rocky

Check all bushings. I've had swaybar bushings appear good, but were cracked enough to cause a clunk.

Check the top shock absorber nut, the steering shaft coupler, body mounts at the front, jack assembly. An easy one to diagnois is the brake caliper. If it's quiet during braking, you've got it. It's a poor design that wears grooves on the sliding surface allowing the caliper to move around.
