10.5" Clutch....what are you running ?

I want to order a clutch to go on a 10.5" flywheel behind my .484 cammed 383 with 3.91 SG in my Roadrunner. I want a seriously fun street car, moderate pedal pressure and good holding power when needed.

I've got a $30 off coupon from Summit and I can't make up my mind. I can't see any reason why I shouldn't get a Dual Friction and be done with it...

Any opinions before I put money down ?

Also, can anyone break down the different pressure plate styles along with their pro's and con's ?

No reason to NOT get a DF, but I'm really happy with my RAM HD Powergrip clutch set, and will probably be ordering another one for my upcoming 5-speed swap. Part of the reasoning behind that choice is that I've had great experiences with RAM's tech support as well. I can't say if that's par for the course in the clutch world, I've only had this one unit as a significant upgrade over stock-performance parts. I HAVE shopped around at Clutchnet.com, but so far it's 2 weeks and counting since I submitted a custom parts request through their web site and still no response. RAM emailed me back in 2 days, and then followed up immediately when I had other questions. That may not be an issue for you if you're ordering basically stock-type application parts, so all you really need are the parts that will work best for you. Just my

Yeah, nothing special at all in my combination.

I have a Centerforce dual friction and I love it. You have to remove the over center spring on the pedal so the force required is minimal

At what level to the pressure plates start to get unbearable ?

My buddy has a new Ram 3500lb pressure plate collecting dust, I do better with a stiff clutch than a soft clutch. Will my leg fall off ? I have very little stop and go traffic that I do, but I do intend of having a little fun. He also has a matching 23-spline clutch disc for it.

I don't know what the RAM Powergrip HD PP is rated at, but it's not a lot different than the (worn) clutch in my old 87 Daytona. Still sucks in stop-n-go traffic, but not many clutches don't. My idea of a light clutch is the one in my 08 Honda Fit... you can almost press the pedal by sneezing on it. I would consider the RAM to be tolerable on a daily basis, which is just what I did with the car for a while.

I used a Centerforce Dual Friction 10 1/2 inch behind a healthy but fairly stock 440, and it was the nicest clutch I've ever had. You could push the pedal to the floor with your hand. The engagement was perfectly smooth, and once you were rolling and hit the gas, it was locked up. I took the time to center the bellhousing with offset dowels, as I heard these clutches were sensitive to proper alignment. I also cleaned the flywheel and pressure plate with carb cleaner. Good luck
