'88 W-150 rough running, stalls when dropped into gear - 06/28/08 07:28 AM

Hey all,

Been fighting this one for awhile. Got a 318-powered '88 W-150 converted to carb using an '86 360-4v intake and wiring from the same truck. Truck will fire up and run, though it sounds like one or two arent hitting, you can feel it run rough.

Carb is an Edelbrock 1406, I recently replaced a float because one had sunk. It acted up before this and after this.

Drop it into drive from a fast idle and it will stall. If you baby it and get it to start moving it bucks out real bad and makes kind of a pinging sound. Once its going its kind of okay. Stall low power and that dead miss.

Just yesterday it started stalling out at idle. It would slow down idling and then stall, not an immediate stall out. Choke it a bit and it keeps running.

Anyone got any ideas. Its not burning oil so I dont think its an intake leak. Would low fuel pressure cause issues like these?

I'm going to change plugs and wires tomorrow and see what that yields. Any other things I should check?

You only need about 5-7psi for fuel pressure on the Eddy's. Do you have a 4 hole spacer under the carb? That'll remove a bunch of your issue, then it's up to you to tune it properly from there.

Yep I'm running a 4 hole spacer (adapter) under the carb. Today I backed it up in 4-lo and it did okay. Still running pretty rough. I just want to get this dang thing running right, its irritating not being able to drive it

Did you do the basic garbage like a compression check, made sure the distributor shaft isn't bent changed plug wires?
