66 Valiant K frames??? - 07/19/09 12:01 AM

Hey, i was wondering if i can keep the K frame in my 66 plymouth valiant when i put a 318 in it. some people told me that in 66 the /6 and v8 k frame was the same?? just curious if anybody else had this problem? and is there a kit to buy to get the block mounts, motor mounts, throttle cable, etc?
Thanks

There is only one K-frame for 64 to 66 "A" bodies, /6 or V8. The difference is in the center link, V8 had more of a drop to clear the pan. Don't have a V8 center link, go Schumachers or try truck (I think might work) engine brackets and mounts.

Hope this gets you started.

The kframe is the same as are the insulators. need a set of 64-66 273 V8 mtr mts(which usually are sold w the insulators as they are common). 66's used the cable throttle as did(I think) some 65's & the 64's I believe use the old rod style that rotated to open the carb.

'65 was the last year for the slant six center link, in '66, all used the V8 style.

Both cable and rod linkage was used in '66 on the slant six, 170s still had the early rod linkage, most (if not all) 225s had the new cable linkage.

My '66 had the rod style linkage with a 225. I do not have a clue if the 225 was original or not.

My 66 Barracuda had the rod style linkage with a 225. Engine and linkage were original. Car was built in Hamtramck June 6, 1966.

(1) no you will need a 64-66 V8 center link. (2) you will need the cable throttle assy either an OE(early A cable) one w the large flat plate or any later cable one(67 up /6 or V8) just redrill holes for it (3) yes 64-66 273(V8) mtr mts. EDIT the later /6 cables will probably be too long so get a V8 one(they're easy to come by)& fyi the cable itself can be interchanged(67 up)from pedal to pedal

Yes, you can use your center link. The last year for the slant six only link was '65.

The '66 throttle cable and pedal is hard to come by. As you can see in the above posts, two '66 owners had the rod linkage. At one time I had a '66 V100 with the 170 motor and rod linkage. I converted to the cable linkage and pedal with one I found in a '66 Signet 4dr with a 225. The easy to find '67-up cable and pedal can be adapted if you don't care about a 100% correct look.
