Carter AVS or Thermoquad

Carter AVS or Thermoquad - 07/18/09 12:11 PM

I currently have a fuel hose going from the fuel pump to carb and want to install a correct fuel line instead. I have a Demon 750 carb installed now. How can I determine if my 71 Duster 340 originally came with a Carter AVS or Thermoquad carburetor?

thanks,
Floyd

AVS-square bore iron intake. TQ-spreadbore iron intake

My apology, I should have mentioned that the car now has an Edlebrock airgap intake...

no apology needed & I knew(as I was typing) that I was missing something because if you have a demon right now you would know that it is a square bore. So the Q is does the TQ and or the AVS have the same fuel inlet location as your Demon carb. A suggestion, since you are not OE you could bend up a line much cheaper than purchasing a correct piece

Very good! And, your absolutely correct about knowing the AVS or TQ inlet location. Your suggestion about making up a line is a good one and certainly an idea to consider!

appreciate your responses and help!!!!!

If an original 340,it came with a Thermoquad. Also, the 71 T/Q is the only air metered T/Q.Not the best design, but work if tuned right. Also, very hard to find if you don't have one. All other T/Q's are solid fuel metered. fuel.

I sold one at carlisle last week for $115 with an NOS rebuild kit everything worked , nothing frozen , I'm guessing I gave it away.

To the OP , does it MATTER what carb your car really HAD? The factory line is not going to fit on your current carb , you'll have to make one as mentioned.

This is what a 71 TQ looks like, they are easy to spot, it's the only year that the idle mixture screws came away from the base at an angle as opposed to straight forward. There were 2 part#'s, 4972 4speed, 4973 automatic. This number is stamped into the mounting foot on the drivers side rear face.

*Yea John, that was a gift, most cores I've seen sell for between $200.00-$275.00 without the kit.
