Challenger ignition lock troubles...HELP! - 07/15/09 09:19 PM

Swapping out the ignition switch and lock on my 71 Challenger and everything was going well...put the switch in and locking bar with the lock. Screwed in the lock plate then turned the key and it was good. When I turned the key backwards,it would not go all the way back to where i could pull the key out again. In addition, I could not move the key backwards to the accessory position either. Checked to make sure the install was done with the switch in the off position but I am stymied. I put the old lock and switch back in and voila'! I have the same problem but I didn't have it before the swap began! WTH? I looked at the locking bar and it appears to be in the correct location but now I am confused. Anyone care to throw experience or advice at this, please? It would be greatly appreciated!!

Not sure if we are talking about the same thing but maybe yes...shift interlock linkage may be what I am referring to as the piece riding between the ignition key tumbler and the ignition switch. This appears to be in the same condition as in the photos from the service manual.

Don't know about the steering wheel turning as there are too many components not yet installed back on to the column to add the steering wheel. Maybe I need to add pics to help...

I think I figured it out when I went to get a picture. The lever and pin assy was stuck.
