Does output shaft on 833 4spd spin while in neutral? - 07/14/09 01:54 AM
I am wondering if the output shaft on a 833 4speed trans is supposed to be spinning while it is in neutral?

If it is out of the car and spinning when turned by hand it can just be drag from lube in the trans. If you can't hold it from turning with your other hand you probably have issues inside.

I was wondering the same thing because on my car if it is jacked up the back wheels will spin when in neutral but if its on the ground they wont.

Depends on what lube you run, and temp. "It likely will"

I started the car and shifted the trans to neutral. I do not have the driveshaft in yet.
I am running a 85-140wt lube and I had the car running for about a couple of minutes so that I could "check" the trans before putting the driveshaft in.

Yep they do that. Put it on the ground and it will stop unless you have other issues.

I suspect with that weight oil it will be hard to shift, too. Especially when it's cold. I have 85-90 in my son's hemi four speed.
And yes, the output shaft will spin with no load in nuetral.

I run 85-140 in mine, works great hot and cold. ATF and Passion lube made it almost unbearable to shift and led to grinding.
