1 and 8 won't fire WHATS GOING ON ????? - 06/26/08 10:21 PM

I changed the distributor , wires , plugs , coil, distributor cap, and even checked the cam it did not wipe it. I have petonix and tried points in it. It keeps backfiring through the exhaust and it wont fire on cylinders 1 and 8 all others fire WHAT IS WRONG WITH THIS??? 340

Have you done a compression check ?

Wild guess but check your spark plug wire orientation. 1 & 8 are next to each other in the cap. Do you have them switched?

When you swapped the points for the pertronics,did you use the same dist.body.I was thinking that possibly the dist.shaft may be slightly bent screwing the dwell on those two cylinders.Just a thought. John.

If there is too much runout in the shaft on a stock dist they wont trigger.

I just found out what it was. I have my coil on my inner fender and it has a pretty long coil wire. when I changed the plug wires I did not change the coil wire ( none long enough ) Changed that an set the timing and it sounds crisp now . THANKS to everyone, really appreciate it. Thank GOD! this was driving me nuts.
