I got this motor over the weekend, trying to find out what kind or mdel car it came from.

It's a 71 & the HP stamp is in the wrong location & is that wrong size/font..

I thought so. I was sold the block at a show, so looks like I got something to find out. Still, std bore and there is no paint on the underside. Still, unsure what it came out of.

If you can get the letter in the space in your vin between the 1 and 2 it would tell you which factory it came from.

I tried wiping it down afterwards, there is no plant i.d. letter there. weird huh? There is nothing between the 1 and 2. Supposibly sitting ina guys shed since 1980's and recently cracked open.

Could it be a warranty motor for a CHP cruiser? Does it have the 908? six-pack rods or just the std LY rod?

a warranty motor would not have a model year stamp on it , that motor has been stamped by someone that didn't work got chrysler .
migs clean the paint off the vin pad chemically and post a pic of it if you could .

We'll, it looks to be the leter 'A' in between the number. So, that's a ruff idea in the mean time.

And the top pad is diffrent as I cleaned the engine up and found a few clews to it. The engine was never rebuilt, and the oilpump was either replaced or rebuilt and has a replacment timing chain. I can't find any other color on the block to indicate if it was a 2 or 4 barrel car. and looking at the top pad just confuses me. I had a friend look at the block at the swapmeet and he was pretty knowledgable and was also confused about it. Can anybody figure out what the top pad means?

I bet it's a C so it likely came out of a C body
The VIN is far too high to be from a 71 STL car (G plant)
The 6/11 engine assembly date and VIN do not fit well with Lynch Road cars (A plant)
A better match would be Jefferson (C plant). Vin U1C253182 has an SPD of 5/25 making 266XXX in June very possible.

No 440 ever came with a 2bbl so that question is out. Im guessing its a standard 440 that someone stamped the HP to get more $$$ out of it. If you paid what you believe is a fair price for it then you got a good deal since it is still a 440 and standard bore. The backwards B on the pad is probably just a mis-stamp as I have seen those before, but look at the 11 and notice that there are 2 different style 1's there??

The M63HP tag is the part number for the Melling High Pressure oil pump.
